Der Bruichladdich 14 Years WMD IV: Yellow Submarine [Reclassified] ist eine limitierte Sonderabfüllung der progressiven Islay-Brennerei Bruichladdich. Mit dieser Abfüllung kehrt eine legendäre Geschichte zurück: Die Yellow-Submarine-Serie erinnert an das gelbe Mini-U-Boot, das einst vor Islay entdeckt wurde und bis heute Teil der Bruichladdich-Folklore ist. Diese neue WMD IV: Yellow Submarine [Reclassified] wurde zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum der Wiedereröffnung von Bruichladdich lanciert. Der Whisky ist 14 Jahre alt und wurde mit kräftigen 54.2% vol. abgefüllt. Als ungetorfter Islay Single Malt zeigt er eine andere Seite der Insel: maritim, frisch, elegant und fruchtbetont statt rauchig. Die Reifung erfolgte in einer Kombination aus 75% First Fill Bourbonfässern und 25% französischen Rotweinfässern. Dadurch verbindet dieser Bruichladdich cremige Vanille, Crème brûlée, geröstete Haselnüsse und helle Früchte mit feiner Würze, roten Beeren und einem Hauch Meersalz. Die Rotweinfässer bringen zusätzliche Tiefe und eine leicht herbe Fruchtstruktur, ohne den frischen Brennereicharakter zu überdecken. Am Gaumen zeigt sich der Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine [Reclassified] vollmundig, lebendig und vielschichtig. Süsse Bourbonfassnoten, Zitrusfrüchte, Apfel, Birne, Beeren, warme Gewürze und maritime Salzigkeit ergeben einen komplexen, modernen Islay Whisky mit hoher Trinkfreude. Der Abgang ist mittellang bis lang, fruchtig-würzig, leicht trocken und elegant. Wie für Bruichladdich typisch wurde dieser Whisky nicht kühlfiltriert und ohne Farbstoff abgefüllt. Dieser ungetorfte Bruichladdich wurde 2002 destilliert und 2020 nach 17 Jahren Reifung von The Cask Whisperer abgefüllt. Der Whisky stammt aus einem einzelnen ehemaligen Syrah-Weinfass aus dem privaten Fassbestand des legendären Master Distillers Jim McEwan. Die auf lediglich 218 Flaschen begrenzte Abfüllung erschien innerhalb der zweiten Serie von Jim McEwan’s Private Stock und wurde mit 53,5 % Vol. in Fassstärke abgefüllt.Das Syrah-Fass verleiht dem charakteristisch malzigen und maritimen Bruichladdich-Stil zusätzliche Frucht und Farbe. Reife Trauben, rote Beeren und getrocknete Früchte verbinden sich mit süsser Eiche, Honig und Zitrus. Florale Noten von Heidekraut und Blüten sorgen für Frische, während geröstetes Malz und eine feine Nussigkeit dem Whisky Struktur verleihen.Am Gaumen zeigt sich die Abfüllung vielschichtig und ausdrucksstark. Getrocknete Äpfel und Birnen treffen auf Granatapfel, Milchschokolade und braunen Zucker. Dazu kommen Heidekraut, getrocknetes Gras, Ingwer und dezente erdige Noten. Der Einfluss des Weinfasses bleibt klar erkennbar, ohne den ungetorften Charakter des Destillats zu überdecken. With its rich sweet red wine overtures, the Cinderella of Islay meets the Prince of Italy! Amarone is one of the most distinctive wines produced anywhere in the world. The casks used previously held Corvina wine. Their coming together is brilliant and very rare. The palate is in Heaven, I have never before experienced such a combination. The fruitiness of the semi dried grapes is the perfect foil for the marine influence of the sea.
